Spontaneous mutations and mutation rates in the house mouse.

چکیده
HE frequency of occurrence of spontaneous mutations has been under investigation in the extensive mouse breeding colonies of the Jackson Laboratory since the autumn of 1963. The primary goal of this study is to estimate the spontaneous mutation rates, both forward and reverse, at each of five specific coat-color loci (non-agouti, a, brown, b, albino, c, dilute, d, and leaden, In). A secondary goal is to estimate an overall rate using all of the mutations found. Forward natural mutation rates based on large numbers of mice have been reported by RUSSELL (1963) and by CARTER, LYON, and PHILLIPS (1958). Preliminary estimates of rates in this study have been reported by GREEN, SCHLAGER and DICKIE (1965, 800,000 mice examined) and by SCHLAGER and DICKIE (1966, 1.5 million mice examined). This report will present estimates based on 3.5 million mice examined, representing ten million gene reproductions at the five specific coat-color loci, and 1.3 to 6.9 million gene reproductions at each of 40 other loci. These data were collected during the period from August 1963, through April, 1966. and include the data previously reported.

Evaluation of effectiveness of some mitochondrial genes in biosystematics and phylogeographic studies of house mouse (Mus musculus ) subspecies
The identification of the efficiency of some mtDNA genes of Mus musculus species complex (house mouse) for biosystematics research was studied in this approach. Recent studies have made use of different mitochondrial genes including NADH dehydrogenase genes, cytochrome b gene, cytochrome oxidase genes, D-loop region and whole mtDNA genome to study the house mouse species. Usage of each of these...
متن کاملStudy of Mutations in the DNA gyrase gyrA Gene of Escherichia coli
Quinolones are a large and widely consumed class of synthetic drugs. Expanded-spectrum quinolones, like ciprofloxacin are highly effective against Gram-negative bacteria, especially Escherichia coli. In E. coli the major target for quinolones is DNA gyrase. This enzyme is composed of two subunits, GyrA and GyrB encoding by gyrA and gyrB, respectively. Mutations in either of these genes cause qu...

متن کاملP167: Effect of Mitochondrial Mutation on Depression and Anxiety
Mitochondria are membrane-enclosed organelle found in most eukaryotic cells, which known as power house in cells. This organelle transforms energy into forms that are usable by the cell. The most common psychiatric disorders such as depression and anxiety can be linked to mitochondrial disorders. Furthermore, mutations of mitochondrial or nuclear DNA (mtDNA and nDNA, respectively) have been lin...
متن کاملC26232T Mutation in Nsun7 Gene and Reduce Sperm Motility in Asthenoteratospermic Men
Reduced sperm quantity and motility are primary causes of infertility in men. Before researchers showed that, Nsun7 gene has roles in sperm motility of mouse, that creation defect in this gene is cause infertility. This gene in human located in chromosome 4, with 12 exons and a hot spot exon (exon7). Our aim is study of the mutations of the exon7 in the normospermic and asthenoteratospermic men...
